How to save the most money on your next vacation

Our family chose to spend Christmas on a cruise in the Southern Caribbean, but that decision was made almost a year in advance of the actual trip. Why so early? The holidays such as Christmas, New Year, Spring Break, etc. are peak travel times. These are the first dates to sell out, and as a result, they’re also the most expensive times to travel. So, when is the time to get the best pricing and availability on your next vacation? NOW!

Aren't last minute deals better?

Oftentimes people think they’ll snag a great deal if they wait until the last minute to book. Well, kind of, and only maybe. If you really want a great deal, book your vacation in January. If you wait until the last minute to reserve, you will usually have a hard time finding inventory and you’ll be stuck picking from the leftovers that no one else wanted (read: that interior cabin at the bottom of the ship, or the resort room that overlooks the parking lot). Are you looking for connecting staterooms? Fat chance if you're a last minute booker. Families snatch those up as soon as they’re released. I had a hard time finding staterooms next door to each other that would suit our family and I booked about a year in advance. And, how much will you save by grabbing a last minute deal, really?
